Composition

Active substance:

100 mg povidone iodine;

Excipients:

sodium bicarbonate,

macrogol 400,

macrogol 4000,

pharmachologic effect

Antiseptic and disinfectant.

Released from the complex with PVP, upon contact with the skin and mucous membranes, iodine forms iodamines with bacteria proteins, coagulates them and causes the death of microorganisms.

Has a fast bactericidal effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (with the exception of M. tuberculosis). Effective against fungi, viruses, protozoa.

Indications

  • bacterial and fungal skin infections;
  • burns;
  • trophic ulcers;
  • bedsores;
  • infectious dermatitis;
  • abrasions;
  • wounds.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Betadine is not recommended for use from 3 months of pregnancy and lactation.

If it is necessary to conduct therapy, the doctor decides on the appointment of the drug individually.

It is necessary to monitor the function of the thyroid gland in newborns and infants whose mothers used Betadine.

Contraindications

  • hypersensitivity to iodine and other components of the drug;
  • dysfunction of the thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) (see "Special instructions");
  • adenoma of the thyroid gland;
  • Duhring's dermatitis herpetiformis;
  • simultaneous use of radioactive iodine;
  • premature and newborn babies (see "Special instructions").

With care:  pregnancy and lactation, chronic renal failure.

Side effects

Perhaps: local manifestation of an allergic reaction to iodine (itching, hyperemia), which requires discontinuation of the drug.

Interaction

Incompatible with other antiseptic agents, especially those containing alkalis, enzymes and mercury.

In the presence of blood, the bactericidal effect may decrease, however, with an increase in the concentration of the drug, the bactericidal activity may be increased.

How to take, course of administration and dosage

The ointment is applied in a thin layer to the affected areas several times a day.

Special instructions

In case of thyroid dysfunction, the use of the drug is possible only under the strict supervision of a physician.

The use of the drug in newborns is possible only if absolutely necessary, after examining the function of the thyroid gland.

Care should be taken with regular use on damaged skin in patients with chronic renal failure.

A colored film is formed at the site of application, which remains until the release of the entire amount of active iodine, which means the cessation of the drug's action. Coloring on skin and fabrics can be easily washed off with water.

Do not use on insect bites, pets and wild animals.
