pharmachologic effect

Farm action:

 Corvalol is a combined drug whose action is due to the properties of its constituent substances. It has a sedative and antispasmodic effect. Facilitates the onset of natural sleep.

Alpha-bromisovalerianic acid ethyl ester has a sedative (similar to valerian effect) and antispasmodic effect, which is caused mainly by irritation of the receptors of the oral cavity and nasopharynx, decreased reflex excitability in the central nervous system and increased inhibition in neurons of the cortex and subcortical structures of the brain, as well as a decrease activity of the central vasomotor centers and direct local antispasmodic effect on smooth muscles.

Phenobarbital enhances the sedative effect of other components, helps reduce central nervous system excitation and facilitates the onset of sleep.
Peppermint oil has a reflex vasodilating, antispasmodic, mild choleretic, antiseptic effect.

The mechanism of action is associated with the ability to irritate the "cold" receptors of the oral mucosa and reflexively expand the vessels of the heart and brain. Eliminates the phenomena of flatulence due to irritation of the receptors of the gastrointestinal mucosa, enhancing intestinal motility.

Indications

Corvalol is prescribed as a symptomatic (sedative and vasodilator) agent for functional disorders of the cardiovascular system, neurosis-like conditions accompanied by increased irritability, in violation of falling asleep, tachycardia, a state of excitement with severe vegetative manifestations;
as an antispasmodic, for intestinal cramps.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug Corvalol;
severe renal and / or liver dysfunction,
lactation (if necessary, use during breastfeeding should decide whether to stop breastfeeding),
pregnancy,
age 18 years (efficacy and safety have not been established),
lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, glucose galactose malabsorption (the drug contains lactose).

Side effects

Drowsiness, dizziness, slow heart rate, decreased ability to concentrate, allergic reactions. Gastrointestinal disturbances may occur. These phenomena occur with a decrease in the dose of Corvalol or discontinuation of the drug.

With prolonged use of the drug, drug dependence, addiction, "withdrawal" syndrome, as well as the accumulation of bromine in the body and the development of the phenomena of bromism are possible.

Interaction

Medicines that depress the central nervous system enhance the effect of the drug Corvalol.

Phenobarbital (an inducer of microsomal oxidation) can reduce the effectiveness of drugs metabolized in the liver (including coumarin, griseofulvin derivatives, glucocorticosteroids, oral contraceptives); enhances the action of local anesthetics, analgesics and sleeping pills. The drug enhances the toxicity of methotrexate.

The effect of the drug is enhanced by the use of valproic acid preparations.

How to take, course of administration and dosage

The dose is set individually.

Take orally, before eating, drink with water. Adults, as a rule, are prescribed 1-2 tablets of Corvalol 2 times a day. With tachycardia, a single dose can be increased to 3 tablets. The maximum daily dose is 6 tablets of Corvalol.

The duration of the drug is determined by the doctor individually.

Overdose

 Symptoms: CNS depression, nystagmus, ataxia, lowering blood pressure, agitation, dizziness, weakness, chronic bromine intoxication (depression, apathy, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, hemorrhagic diathesis, impaired coordination of movements).

Treatment: discontinuation of the drug, gastric lavage and symptomatic therapy, with central nervous system depression - caffeine, niketamide.

Special instructions

There is no experience with the use of the drug in children under 18 years of age.

During the use of the drug Corvalol should not drink alcohol.

It is recommended to refrain from engaging in potentially hazardous activities that require an increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving and working with complex mechanisms).
