pharmachologic effect

Magnerot is a magnesium preparation. Magnesium is a macronutrient, necessary for many energy processes, and is involved in the metabolism of proteins, fats, carbohydrates and nucleic acids. Magnesium takes part in the process of neuromuscular excitement, inhibiting neuromuscular transmission. Magnesium is of particular interest as a natural physiological calcium antagonist.

Magnesium controls the normal functioning of myocardial cells, is involved in the regulation of myocardial contractile function. In stressful situations, an increased amount of free ionized magnesium is excreted, and therefore the additional amount of magnesium contributes to an increase in stress resistance.

Magnesium deficiency leads to neuromuscular disorders (motor and sensory hyperexcitability, convulsions, paresthesia), mental changes (depression, confusion and hallucinations), cardiovascular diseases (ventricular premature beats, tachycardia, hypersensitivity to cardiac glycosides).

Magnesium deficiency during pregnancy increases the likelihood of toxicosis and premature birth. Orotic acid salts are involved in the metabolic process. In addition, orotic acid salts are necessary for fixing magnesium to ATP in the cell and manifesting its action.

Pharmacokinetics

Approximately 35–40% of the dose taken is absorbed. Hypomagnesemia stimulates the absorption of magnesium ions. The presence of orotic acid salts helps to improve the absorption of magnesium. Magnesium is excreted by the kidneys, excretion decreases with magnesium deficiency and increases with its excess.

Indications

  • Spastic conditions - pain and muscle spasms (including angiospasm);

  • Myocardial infarction;

  • Angina pectoris;

  • Chronic heart failure;

  • Cardiac arrhythmias caused by magnesium deficiency;

  • Atherosclerosis;

  • Arteritis;

  • Lipid metabolism disorders.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

It is possible to use the drug during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) according to indications, since during these periods the need for magnesium increases significantly. If its content is not balanced, then this can lead to serious complications, incl. miscarriage.

The use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation is possible if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus and child.

Contraindications

  • lactose intolerance;

  • lactase deficiency;

  • hypersensitivity to drug components;

  • impaired renal function;

  • urolithiasis disease;

  • predisposition to the formation of calcium-magnesium-ammonium-phosphate stones;

  • cirrhosis of the liver with ascites;

  • glucose-galactose malabsorption;

  • children under 18 years of age.

Side effects

Allergic reactions.

From the gastrointestinal tract : unstable stools and diarrhea (when taking high doses), which usually go away on their own when the dose of the drug is reduced If any of these side effects have worsened or any other side effects not listed in the instructions appear, you must inform your doctor.

Interaction

With the simultaneous administration of magnesium-containing drugs with iron preparations, sodium fluoride and tetracyclines, the absorption of the latter may decrease. Therefore, the drugs should be taken at intervals of 2-3 hours.

Oral contraceptives, diuretics, muscle relaxants, GCS, insulin reduce the effect of the drug.

How to take, course of administration and dosage

Inside, before meals, with a small amount of liquid.

Assign 2 tablets 3 times a day for 7 days, then 1 tablet 2-3 times a day daily. The duration of the course is at least 4–6 weeks. If necessary, Magnerot® can be used for a long time.

For night cramps of the calf muscles, it is recommended to take 2-3 tablets in the evening.

Overdose

Symptoms from the drug: depression, slowing reflexes, lowering blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, respiratory depression, coma, cardiac arrest, anuric syndrome. Treatment: rehydration, forced diuresis. Renal failure requires hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

Special instructions

Magnerot® can be used for a long time. It should be borne in mind that a deficiency of magnesium in the body can lead to gastrointestinal diseases, the consumption of foods with a reduced magnesium content, sports (due to increased sweating), chronic alcoholism (due to a decrease in magnesium resorption in the renal tubules and increased excretion of magnesium ions from body), taking certain drugs (cardiac glycosides, aminoglycoside antibiotics, oral contraceptives, diuretics, laxatives, GCS), conditions requiring increased magnesium intake (physical inactivity, stress, pregnancy and lactation), prolonged exposure to the sun.

Impact on the ability to drive a car or perform work that requires an increased speed of physical and mental reactions. The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and other activities that require high concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions.
