Structure
1 g of ointment for external and local use contains the active substance:
interferon alfa-2 human recombinant 40,000 IU;
Excipients:
tocopherol acetate 0.02 g,
anhydrous lanolin 0.34 g,
medical vaseline 0.45 g,
peach oil 0.12 g,
purified water to 1.0 g.
pharmachologic effect
Immunomodulating and antiviral drug. Human recombinant alpha-2 interferon has pronounced antiviral, antiproliferative and immunomodulating properties.
In the presence of excipients that make up the drug (antioxidant tocopherol acetate), the specific antiviral activity of human recombinant alpha-2 interferon increases, its immunomodulatory effect is enhanced (stimulation of the phagocytic function of neutrophils in the lesion foci).
For external and local use, systemic absorption of interferon is low.
Indications
For the treatment of herpetic infections (Herpes simplex type 1 and 2) of the skin and mucous membranes of various locations.
As part of the complex therapy of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections in children aged 1 year.
Pregnancy and lactation
Since with external and local application, systemic absorption of interferon is low and the drug has an effect only in the lesion, it is possible to use the drug VIFERON, ointment during pregnancy and lactation.
Contraindications
Individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Children's age up to 1 year.
Side effects
In most cases, the drug VIFERON, ointment for external and local use is well tolerated.
When applied to the nasal mucosa, side effects (rhinorrhea, sneezing, burning of the nasal mucosa) are weak and transient in nature and disappear on their own after drug withdrawal.
Interaction
The drug VIFERON, an ointment for external and local use, is compatible and well combined with all medicines used in the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections, including influenza, viral (herpetic) lesions of the skin and mucous membranes.
How to take, course of administration and dosage
Viferon ointment is applied with a thin layer on the lesions 3-4 times a day, the duration of treatment is 5-7 days.
It is recommended to start treatment immediately when the first signs of damage to the skin and mucous membranes appear (itching, burning, redness).
When treating recurrent herpes, it is advisable to begin treatment in the prodromal period or at the very beginning of the appearance of signs of relapse.
For the treatment of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections, the ointment is applied a thin layer on the mucous membrane of the nasal passages 3-4 times a day:
- children from 1 year to 2 years 2500 IU (1 pea with a diameter of 0.5 cm) 3 times a day
- children from 2 to 12 years old 2500 ME (1 pea with a diameter of 0.5 cm) 4 times a day
- children from 12 to 18 years old 5000 IU (1 pea with a diameter of 1 cm) 4 times a day.
The duration of treatment is 5 days.
